During this weekend's Earn Your Leisure (EYL) Invest Fest in Atlanta, Sean 'Diddy' Combs cleared the air on the racial discrimination case he and drinks distributor Diageo were involved in. The hip-hop mogul discussed the continuing problem with the spirits manufacturer he once had a 15-year collaboration with with EYL presenters Rashad Bilal and Troy Billings. The spat originally came to light earlier this summer when Diddy accused Diageo of discriminating against his firm DeLeΓ³n Tequila on the basis of race. Diddy said, "The situation is in the courts now, so Iβm going to share with you all what I can." He continued, "I had to send my people down to Mexicoβthis is what the fight is aboutβThey went down to Mexico, and when they got down there, they found out that there was zero agave planted for Deleon. There was no plan for it to be successful. There was no equal treatment. The other brands, they had agave planted." He added, "Out of all the business revenue in America, only 1% goes to black businesses. But then itβs an accountability from us because we have $1.8 trillion in buying power, and only 2% of that recirculates. So, we canβt complain. We know what it is. Itβs time to change the call. We have to unify our dollars or nothing will change."
